What does the word ‘Diet’ mean to you? Starvation, tasteless foods, never being satisfied? Well here are a few tips to dieting or rather a lifestyle change that can help you with weight loss.
When shopping make a list of what you need and only buy what is on your list (take away the temptation). Never go shopping on an empty stomach and avoid prepared foods.
Around the house you should try to store food out of sight, and eat food in one place only, i.e. the dinner table not out of the fridge. Try to avoid using serving dishes, as this tends to lead to over eating. Also, use smaller dishes and utensils. After you have finished your meal, leave the table straight away. Remember: if it isn’t in the house, you can’t eat it!!
Try to change your eating behaviour, for example, put your fork down between bites, chew thoroughly before swallowing, drink lots of water during the meal, pause in the middle of the meal and do nothing else while eating – i.e. don’t read or watch TV.
Educating yourself about the nutritional value of food can help to change your patterns. Decrease your fat intake to reasonable levels and try to increase daily routine activity by beginning a mild exercise plan.
Lastly, change your thinking. Try to avoid setting yourself unreasonable goals, think of progress, and not shortfalls. Make sure you set yourself realistic weight goals, therefore decreasing the possibility of creating negative thoughts.
Feel positive about the effort you are making and yourself. The small things you do on a daily basis will make the biggest difference in the long term. And remember: you’re making a commitment to change your dietary habits for life not just setting yourself up for a fall so plan carefully about the foods you like and create a variety to keep your interest up. It may help to invest in a low-fat cookbook .
Last but not least, DO NOT STARVE YOUR BODY!!! One of the most fundamental problems with dieting is starvation. Without consuming fat, your body actually stores fat!! By not feeding your body, your body will hold onto your fat stores and slow down your metabolism to counteract your starvation period.
